The United States, Iran, and Oman are reportedly close to reaching a temporary agreement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. The proposed deal aims to restore safe commercial shipping and reduce tensions in the Gulf after months of disruption.
Under the reported plan, ships entering the Gulf would travel through Iranian waters, while outgoing vessels would use a route along Oman’s coast. The agreement is expected to last for 60 days, creating room for broader diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran.
Iran wants its role and coastal rights in the Strait to be recognised, while the US insists that international shipping must remain free without Iranian approval or transit charges. Oman continues to act as the key mediator between both sides.
Although a Hormuz deal could lower regional tensions and stabilize global oil markets, experts say it will not end the wider conflicts involving Iran, Israel, Lebanon, or negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
