A new Gaza disarmament agreement has sparked global attention after Hamas reportedly agreed to surrender its weapons under a US-backed plan. However, the deal also requires Israel to gradually withdraw from Gaza and transfer authority to a Palestinian administration, creating major political challenges for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
While US President Donald Trump praised the agreement and said Israel was satisfied with the outcome, Israeli officials have signaled that any military withdrawal will only happen after what they describe as the complete and verified disarmament of Hamas.
The proposal has faced strong opposition inside Israel. Several senior politicians, including members of Netanyahu’s coalition, argue that ending military operations before Hamas is fully dismantled would threaten Israel’s security.
